Detour: Search or Surf
In Search, teams must make their way to Chinguetti City (they must find out the name by using the picture clue found earlier in the race.) Once they reach the ancient city, they must find the mosque and search the area around it for pieces of the clue. Once they have found all ten pieces, they will put the pieces together to reveal their next clue.

In Surf, teams must make their way to Chinguetti City (they must find out the name by using the picture clue found earlier in the race.) Once they are there, they must make their way to the sand dunes, where they will participate in the popular activity of sand surfing. They must make their way down a 100 foot dune without falling to receive their next clue. If they fall, they must trudge to the top and start over again.

Roadblock: Ahmad ibn al-Amin al-Shinqiti was a famous writer who was born and raised near Chinguetti. Teams must make their way to the house he grew up in, where one team member will have to memorize an excerpt from his most famous work, Al-Wasit fi Tarajim udaba al-Shinqit. Once they have successfully recited the excerpt, the poem will hand them their next clue.
